About Us
Mission & History
The New York Choreographic Institute was founded in 2000 by Irene Diamond and Peter Martins with a mission to cultivate the next generation of choreographers who will shape classical ballet for the 21st century. Adrian Danchig-Waring, Principal Dancer with New York City Ballet, took on the role of Artistic Director in 2018.
The New York Choreographic Institute supports racial and gender equity in the arts and is committed to providing opportunities for artists of all identities. Our programs provide time, space, and resources for artists to evolve both the practice and purpose of ballet choreography today. In our efforts to propel ballet forward we have an obligation to amplify the voices of artists who have been marginalized throughout the history of ballet. Our ongoing work offers an inclusive space for artists whose diversity and creativity reflect that of our broader society.
